A Sophisticated, Sassy Speakeasy: Blake’s of Braselton
The Respite that is Blake’s of Braselton
If the city center of Braselton, GA wasn’t already a mix of nostalgia and eccentricity, there’s an exceptional “new kid” on the block that adds to the flavor of the historic district. There’s no sign out front but Blake’s of Braselton offers patrons more than just a title with a fun-to-say alliteration. The old schoolhouse, now turned speakeasy, is owned by Ron Blake, an Army veteran, former insurance co. VP, and experienced B&B, RV Resort owner.
As the cool kids might say, Blake’s is a vibe. The shotgun-style construction of the historic building along with the large patio is quaint and summery on approach. The interior, however, is just shy of glamorous. If rustic opulence is a thing, that’s what the decor at Blake’s would best be described as. Often featuring live music, especially on the weekends, this friendly neighborhood speakeasy is a pleasurable way to spend an evening among friends, or for a casual but sophisticated date night!
Enjoy what you love and laugh with friends!
Serving beer, wine, and mixed drinks as well as tapas, charcuterie, and salads, Blakes’s is comprised of seating areas, more than traditional tables. While there are several high tops for cocktails with friends, it’s the lavish gathering areas that garner your attention upon entry. From comfortable leather and richly upholstered velvet chairs to the ample antique elements, this speakeasy is elegant without feeling stuffy. Relatively small, Blake’s is surprisingly roomy. High ceilings and beautiful lighting, including a simply breathtaking art deco chandelier, draw you into open seating designed for great conversation and laughter among friends.
The Blakes of Braselton Motto is all about enjoying the space, “drink what makes you happy with friends who make you laugh,” Blake says. While Blake’s is open to the public, one unique aspect of the business is the option to join as a member. Members get special perks like complimentary wine, seat reservations, and discounts on all food and beverage orders.
Something for everyone at Blake’s of Braselton.
Blake explains it was Braselton’s “something for everyone” flair that helped him solidify the plans for the speakeasy. He was drawn to the schoolhouse building for its history and elements that were reminiscent of the days of prohibition. The idea of a speakeasy rather begs a membership alternative! While there’s no secret knock for admittance, the members of Blake’s do enjoy special treatment and an enhanced sense of belonging.
Aside from the craft cocktails, specialty brews, and sultry wine selection, Blake’s offers sumptuous salads, decadent flatbreads, and stunning charcuterie boards. The food is thoughtful and delicious. In fact, it would seem as if every detail both inside and outside of this unique and delightful venue was meticulously thought out. Even the lock on the bathroom door is adorned with a decorative vinyl graphic instructing one on its use.
Blake’s of Braselton is open to the public Wednesday and Thursday evenings 4 pm-11 pm, Friday and Saturday evenings 4 pm to 12 am, and on Sunday, Monday and Tuesday by appointment.
